How to restore Show Desktop icon in quick launch bar?

I had lost my ShowDesktop Icon from my taskbar and I use this button in every 2 minute. Though, we can go to the Desktop by pressing Windows (start button ) + D but I am not used to it.

Thankfully, I have restored my Show Quick Launch button and also sharin it with you as well in case if you have also accidentally deleted or removed the Show Desktop icon button in the quick launch bar. I don't know why how I deleted the Show Desktop icon from quick launch bar.

Just follow these simple following steps and you will be able to restore Show Desktop icon in your quick launch bar once again :

* Click on Start -on Run -> type Notepad and press enter
* Copy the following contents to your Notepad and save as - Show Desktop.scf

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

* Once the file is saved (you can save the file anywhere you wish), drag the same file to the Quick Launch bar.

* You will find the icon above if you restore the Show Desktop successfully
* You are Done !!! You just restore Show Desktop icon.

There is another way to restore your show desktop icon in quick launch bar:

* Click on Start -> Run and type regsvr32 /n /i:U shell32.dll and enter
* You are Done!!! You just restore your Show Desktop icon

India’s cricket team most successful captain — the man who single-handedly galvanised a bunch of talented players into a winning side — won’t play again. The God on the off-side has announced his retirement from competitive cricket. Sourav Ganguly made this announcement during an exclusive interview with Headlines Today.

Breaking his silence on the IPL controversy, he said, he was playing Ranji only to stay fit for the league. And he doesn’t see any possibility of playing IPL again. So he’s hanging up his boots.

Speaking to Headlines Today, he said: “I have already retired from international cricket. I was playing Ranji cricket only to stay fit for IPL. I see no possibility of playing IPL any more. And now I don’t see any point in playing competitive cricket again.”

But he expressed disappointment at not finding a place in 10 IPL teams in which 70 Indians were selected. “I had the runs. Players of my age, Gilchrist, Dravid and Laxman are still actively involved. I haven’t been able to put the finger on why I was left out.

Cricketing logic and past form suggests I should have been picked. There are several reasons I could have been dropped, but not for cricket.”

So there will be no resurrection for the man, who like a phoenix has sprung surprises every time people thought his innings was over.

But Ganguly doesn’t feel betrayed by Shah Rukh Khan.

“SRK spoke to me about a possible role as KKR mentor. I don’t think KKR needs a mentor. I see no role there. The team already has enough expertise in Whatmore and Akram. I wanted to play and not mentor the team. I didn’t see myself in the sort of a role Kumble has chosen.”

To put it more succinctly, he said: “We are in a profession, where we get selected. Opinions differ. But I thought I deserved a place.”

But such is his love for the Kolkata outfit that he was disappointed over how the team has been handled, especially over the past two seasons. “I agree KKR didn’t do well. We had the acumen to deliver, but suffered a confidence problem. I felt there was panic every time we lost. There was panic among the owners, panic among the players.

But you need continuity in a team to deliver like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. When we don’t win three seasons in a row, there’s an opportunity to rebuild. I understand KKR felt they deserved better and they need to go into the later stages of the game.”

His passion for the game won’t die. His IPL dream flickered when Kochi wanted him after the auctions. But the franchises put a spanner in the works. And Ganguly was left in the cold again.

“I was very disappointed when the franchises stalled the repurchase. The rules of the IPL have been changed in the past. Every rule in sport should give an opportunity to play, not keep them out. Whether it’s Sourav Ganguly today or some other player sometime.”

Ganguly junked the theory floated by some franchises that he brings baggage with him and indulges in politics. “I have played cricket, 5 years as captain and 8 years under different skippers. I have helped in building what Team India is today. And this doesn’t come by playing politics.”

And the man who along with Sachin was part of one of the most destructive opening pairs in history won’t swing the willow again. Rather, he will still be part of the game, but not on the field. “I am mentally preparing myself for an administrator’s role at some stage. I would love to be part of the Cricket Association of Bengal at some point of my life. I also would love to coach the Indian cricket team as well.”

Cricket Association of Bengal is home turf. But the Bengal Tiger could also eye the chair of the Indian Cricket Board. Nothing is impossible for the unputdownable Dada.

A stampede on a bridge in the capital of Cambodia has taken the life of more than 350 people till now. All of them had participated in a water festival.Hundreds of opeples are hospitalised and many of them also critical. Family members of the injured people are really very worried and panickedabout them.

Eye Witnesses informed press reporters that the tragic stampede started when hundred of people were electrocuted late on Monday on a small bridge lined with lights connecting Phnom Penh to a nearby island where thousands had gathered to celebrate the water festival and watch a concert. Most of them drowned in the water, suffocated or were trampled while trying to leave the bridge. Many people were eating in outdoor restaurants and they were crossing the bridge so they can return to the city.

Mr. P.M. Hun Sen apologized to the nation for the disaster in which at least 350 people were hurt. The Prime Minister ordered for an investigation as T.V footage showed relatives weeping over the bodies of the dead piled one on top of the other. It is one of the biggest tragedy happened in Cambodia. Last time, the bigest tragedy was when 1.7 people were killed in revolution of 1975-1979.

Doctors at New Delhi's Hospital named Sir Ganga Ram Hospital did India's first unrelated stem cell transplant on a just 1-year-old Pakistani boy on 15th March. Unfortunately Shaheer Imran had familial HLH and it is a rare disorder where the body's immune system over reacts occasionally and then starts eating up its own defence cells.

The Pakistani infant was in instant need of a bone marrow transplant. But since he did not have any of the siblings and had not a single donor in the family who matched his profile, doctors called to the Reliance Cord Bank in Mumbai.

Luckily, two cord blood units matching his profile were procured from the Reliance Cord bank. Cord blood is obtained from the umbilical cord of a newborn and is used to treat various blood-related and heritable disorders, as it contains stem cells.

First unit, with a 5/6 match, did not have enough cell dose, which means there were not enough cells capable of reproducing. To remain on the safe side, the doctors transplanted the other unit (with 4/6 match) as well.

"We just required making sure that if one unit doesn't work properly, the other one did," said by Doctor Anupam Sachdeva, senior consultant, department of paediatrics, Mr. Ganga Ram. It cost Rs 2.5 lakh to procure each cord blood unit, and the whole procedure cost the family around Rs 17 lakh. In the United States of America, the same procedure would have cost around Rs 2.5 crore which is more than 15 time higher than India.

The cause of the £24 million pound downfall was the sudden resurgence of the British pound against the US dollar. No one could have expected that. One fine day my colleague Sankhadip informed me that my blog has got PR 4! I was really surprised and elated. Not only that, my Travel and Bollywood blog also became PR 2. Now, according to Google analytics, my blog (site) ranks in the top 1 lac sites in India and in the top 5 lac sites in the world. Hopefully by next year, the ranking will be much better! Generally, my blogs attract most visitors from India, USA and Philippines. As Varun Blog is based on US And Indian events, so it attracts more visitors during Indian festivals like the Independence Day, Republic Day, Pongal, Durga Puja, Diwali and in the US events like Christmas, Valentine's Day, New Year and many others.

Generally, we people use to spend most of our time at home except those who are in defense. And at our home, there is one thing that helps us to pass our time. Guess who is that??? That is none other than our TV (Television). Isn't it right? Everyone loves watching TV but the choices of channels are different. If you ask me about my favorite channel then my answer is very clear. It's Sports Channel.

Earlier, I had not good quality channels but after taking new Direct TV connection from directtv.com then it really changed the whole thing at my sweet home and now our family members again start watching TV together after a long gap.. For last 2-3 weeks, I was looking for some good deal but I finally got everything at DirecTV Offers. The pictures and sound quality are really superb and high definition.

You know one more interesting thing, now whenever there is a soccer game then I call all my friends and invite at my home to watch the game together. This is really a fun.

Cyclone Aila hit Kolkata India

Till now, 11 persons were killed in the Cyclone called Aila. The cyclone hit the coastal areas of West Bengal including the international city Kolkata (Calcutta). Already, some iof the Kolkata schools have declared holiday. The cyclone has hit the North 24 Paraganas (Barrackpore-Kankinara area), South 24 Paraganas, Hooghly, Midapore and the Kolkata city. It is reported that South 24 Paragnas was most affected and it is also the place where 6 people have died. Hundred of trees in the street of Kolkata uprooted and those have blocked the important roads, tram lines, railway lines. It has also affected Calcutta Domestic and International Airport (known as Dum Dum Airtport / Netaji Subhash Chandrea Bose International Airport). Waters entered into the Metro rail too and Metro Rail line also stopped. In many private organizations, they have declared holiday in the lunch time and the IT hub of Kolkata city (Salt Lake) also declared holiday.

Aila was formed in the Bay of Bengal and it reached to the Kolkata city by the speed of more than 80 kmph. Thousand of people have already left coastal areas like Digha, Sagar Islands and Sunderban. Army have been called by the West Bengal chief Minister after the urgent meeting to rescue.

Finally Vellupillai Prabhakaran is killed by the Sri Lanka's soldiers. On May 18th 2009, Sri Lankan's chief informed that Tamil Tiger leader terrorist Vellupillai Prabhakaran's was killed. He also informed Indian External Minister Mr. Pranab Roy over phone. The army men also confirmed that they have also identified the body of Vellupillai Prabhakaran. Vellupillai Prabhakaran body was found in a place called Lagoon in Southern part of the Sril Lanka.

Generally, I don't publish this kind news at my Varun Blog but it is really a big news so I bound to post it. Vellupillai Prabhakaran was the leader of LTTE which is supposed to be the most dangerous terrorist group in the world even dangerous than Al-Qaeeda Terrorist group. LTTE existence in Sri Lanka is more than 25 years. Vellupillai Prabhakaran aim was to set up a new country in Sri Lanka, where only the Tamil people will live. It reported that Vellupillai Prabhakaran was running away in an Ambulance and 50,000 Sri Lankan soldiers captured him and shoot them. The ambulance set the fire. Along with Vellupillai Prabhakaran, his son and other main leader of LTTE group were also killed.

Vellupillai Prabhakaran was all the killer of Late Indian Prime Minister and son of Indira Gandhi Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi was killed by the suicide bomber by a women in South India. Indian Government was also looking for him over the years and now Indian people and Indian Government shown their satisfaction and congratulate Sri Lankan Government and Sri Lankan soldiers for killing the world most dangerous terrorist Vellupillai Prabhakaran.

Till my birth, I was also seeing the Left Parties and this is the first time I have seen other parties winning. Finally CPIM power has been ended here and it is done by Dinesh Trivedi with the help of Arjun Singh (Bhatapara-Kankinara leader), Dharampal Gupta (Kankinara Congress leader) and Devi Ghoshal. TMC candidate Mr. Dinesh Trivedi won by big margin of more that 55,000 votes. Yesterday, they came in a winning rally in Kankinara. The main reason for his winning is that his profile and background is very good compared to his opposition leader Tarit Baran Topdar who has many crime records. Tarit Baran Topdar hates and use slang words againST non bengali people who are from UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Orissa and muslim people. Dinesh Trivedi is an ex IPS officer, pilot and good friend of Rajiv Gandhi. He is also the member of Rajya Sabha. He is the most educated candidate of Trinamool Congress and the speaker of TMC party.

2009 Election in India

The largest democratic election in the world is India. India is presently holding 15th general elections after Independence (15th Lok Sabha election). In some respect, Makar Sakranti festival looks like Pongal Festival. The relation of India and Pakistan have a long and very complicated history background with each other. Truly speaking, India and Pakistan simultaneously became independent country from Britain in 1947. When British people left India, it was supposed to be divided the country into two parts. It was decided that the area that consists 75% or more Muslims would be the part of Pakistan and the rest of the part India. But unfortunately, this proposal did not include the Princely States, one of which was Kashmir. The Princely were left at liberty to decide their own future whether they want to be the part of Pakistan, part of India, or just want to remain as a separate state (Sloan). At that time, The Maharaja of Kashmir named Hari Singh Dogra, decided that Kashmir will neither be part of India nor Pakistan. In the mean while, Pakistan had also sent some tribal Lhakars to discuss to Kashmir about their decision of autonomy. Then Indian government realized Pakistan's action as a sign of invasion and then Indian Government also sent their troops to help defend the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The World has seen the birth of a new Islamic Republic country called as "Pakistan" on 14th August 1947. The very next day India won its freedom from British rule after almost 350 years of British rule in India. British people came to India for business purpose and they started their first big company in Calcutta as "East India Company" they started ruling all parts of the India. Before Independence, Calcutta (now Kolkata) was the capital of India but now it's New Delhi. British left India divided in two parts - India and Pakistan. The two countries were distributed on the basis of religion (i.e Hindu and Muslims), with India as a secular one and Pakistan as an Islamic state.

It's a still big debate that whether the partition of India and Pakistan was done too soon and whether it was wise or not. Everyone and everyone country did their best to stop the conflict between India and Pakistan. British divided India in two parts but unfortunately they did not resolve the border issues and causing three wars between two countries. Those three were occured in the year 1965, 1971 and 1999 Kargil War causing thousand of soldiers from both the countries died.

Thousands of Kolkatans joined with torches and lamps dispelled the darkness of the night, as people of Kolkatan welcomed football legend Diego Maradona to the city of joy in a carnival atmosphere early morning on Saturday. He reached the Netaji Subhash Chandra International Airport at 1.25 a.m on Saturday 06th December 2008. He is in a two-day trip to the city. More than 1,00,000 fans were waiting for Maradona in the Calcutta Airport late night in the winter. People from all parts of the India and Bangladesh came to the airport to welcome him. The flight took 48 hours to reach Kolkata and in the airport he was welcomed by West Bengal sports minister Subhas Chakraborty and the other organizers with flowers.

From the Kolkata airport, Maradona and his girlfriend Vernonica were put into a specially designed bus and the window was transparent windows to enable the soccer fans have a little glance of the player, whose heroic performance enabled Argentina win the World Cup in 1986. Everywhere people can be seen in wearing Argentine jerseys and holding Maradona's cutouts and posters welcoming him in different languages like English, Hindi, Bengali and Spanish. Maradona fans were waving flags of India and Argentina and danced madly to the tune of foot-tapping Latin American music.

Mumbai under Terrorist Attack

On 26th July, 2008 at 9.40 p.m Mumbai (Southern part of Mumbai) was attacked by the number of militants. Militants killed more than 100 persons and more than 600 persons were injured. The injured people have been hospitalized by the nearby hospital. Terrorists entered into the two five-star hotel (Taj Hotel and Grand Oberoi Hotel late night) in the India's financial capital.

A newly born militant group by the name of 'Deccan Mujahideen' claimed the responsibility for the terror strikes in Southern Mumbai. The attacks began between 9 pm and 9.15 pm with firing and bomb blast. The terrorists were throwing grenades from the rooftop of the Taj Hotel and trying to stop police from moving in. Police are saying that along with the two famous hotel, terrorists also targeted a railway station and the Cafe Leopold. The militants were young aged between 20-25.

This is not the first time, Mumbai has suffered this. It started from 90s when Stock Market and major market of Bombay was bombed and many attack on local train. All parts of India are suffering from these specially Delhi, Mumbai and Kashmir. A senior policemen reported that Foriegners visitors were the main target by the militans. He also confirmed that these Militants comes from Karachi via sea routes and entered Mumbai. It is announced that bombay Stock Exchange, schools, colleges and office nearby by the hotels will be remained closed on 27th November. After the attacks, world leaders supported India and they assured that they are with India to fight with the terrorism. Newly elected, US President barrack Obama has also express his mercy.

Now, if you will switch on your T.V and go to any news channel you will find this news at the top (headlines). It is seen for last two years that people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh (Hindi speaking) are victimized by a polictical party just for the sake of votes. Now, they are calling North Indian as "Bhaiyas". The name of the party is Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) which is led by none other that Raj Thackrey who is responsible for many killing of innocent people. In simple, Raj Thackrey is a open terrorist (murderer) directly or indirectly. He should be hanged asap. It's a one sided wat between them because North Indians are taking any actions against the Marathis because they know the reality and they have patience.

MNS party affect the poor public people and folks are mind washed in cash of emotions and sentiments. Many other Indian political leaders and party like Samajwadi Party, Laloo Prasad Yadav, Congress I, CP(I)M, Nitish Kumar and many other urged Government and Election committe to ban this party in all respect. Mumbai city is for whole nation and each person has the full rights to share, contribute & celebrate land of opportunities. On 28th October 2008, a man was killed in a local train, first he was asked by the Mumbaikars (Marathis) where he is originally from when they confirmed that he is from the Indian state of U.P the he was beaten up badly and he was killed. He was recently married and had a one year daughter. Not only common people but famous persons like Amitabh Bachan (supposed to be a No.1 actor in Bollywood) has also suffered from these.

Raj Thackrey is Hindu by religion but he is againgst Hindu festival "Chath Puja" just because it is being celebrated by North Indian mostly. Hundreds of people now have moved from Mumbai and settled in other major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh and they have pronised that will never think of Maharastra in future again as it is a state of his terrorism led by Raj ThackreyI have uploaded a you tube video where he is showing his bjealousy gainst Chath puja. But this year, when he had to saty one day in jail then he seems to be a little cool and asked his party followers not to harass North Indian people during Chath Puja.

Deepawali or Diwali is one of the biggest festivals of Hindus. The basic purpose of the puja is to get the help of the goddess in diminishing evil both from the outside world and within us.

First and foremost thing is to clean your house. Through the Laxmi puja, we are inviting Goddess (Maa) Lakshmi to house and she likes each and everything to be neat and clean in all respect. Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Durga and Goddess Saraswathi –Lord Ganesha and Lord Kubera are also worshipped on the day of Diwali. Generally, puja is not performed without paying customary tributes to our Lord Ganesha.

Important things and items needed For Lakshmi Puja

- Kalash (pot),
- Puffed rice,
- Cumin seeds,
- Idol or picture of Goddess Lakshmi,
- Milk, curd, honey, ghee
- Coriander seeds,
- Usual puja Sweets,
- Mango leaves
- And other daily puja items

Lakshmi Puja Process
------------------------
***** First decide the place (clean) where you have to perform the puja.
**** Spread a clean cloth & create a bed of rice.
*** A Kalash is placed all over on the bed of rice.
** Fill around 70 percent of the Kalash with water.
* Place a betel nut, flowers, a clean coin (silver coin, if possible), and then some rice in the Kalash.
** Now then arrange mango leaves (5 leaves) around the opening (top) of the Kalash.
*** Place a Thali (a small plain plate) on the Kalash
**** Now, on the Thaali, draw a lotus with turmeric powder & place the idol or you can also place small photograph of Goddess Lakshmi.
***** Put some coins on the Thaali.
**** On the right side of the Kalash, place the idol of Lord Ganesha.
*** If you need, then you can also place the idols of Saraswathi and your favorite deities.

After arranging all these, then maintain a peaceful and calm atmosphere in that particular place. The best way is to close your eyes and meditate or chant on "OM"

# Take some Gangajal (water) and sprinkle on all puja items to make them purified.
# Perform puja with yellow haldi, kumkum & flowers on the Kalash.
# Light a lamp to illuminate the place.
# Now take some flowers & rice on your hands and close the eyes again and meditate on Goddess (Maa) Lakshmi. You are now invoking Goddess Lakshmi. If you know mantras by heart, recite them. Otherwise you can hust just simply meditate on Goddess Lakshmi. I have a simple Sanskrit mantra for you, dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi.

Chath Puja

Chath Puja is celebrated all over India for thanksgiving dedicated to Sun. During the Chath Puja, people use to gather on the banks of the River Ganges (sacred water) to bathe, pray & make ritual offerings to the Sun of God. Chath Puja is also known for its impressive display of colorful costumes, traditional music, dancing and extravagant rituals. Chath Puja is celebrated all parts of the India but it's most popular in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and other Hindi speaking state. It's also celebrated in Indian major cities like Kolkata (Calcutta), Mumbai, New Delhi where people of U.P and Bihar are settled for the purpose of jobs. I would also like to share with you that at my home town Kankinara, West Bengal, Chath Puja is very famous. The whole Kankinara and Jagatdal are illuminated for 2-3 days and many singing and dance program are scheduled at Kachari Raod, Kankinara whole night. "Thekua" (made of Flour, sugar, saunf) is the main "prasad" of Chath Puja.

When Is the Festival of Chath Puja?
Chath Puja generally takes place, sometime during the months of October-November every year, immediately after the sixth day festival of lights known as Diwali. Chhath Puja lasts for almost 3 days. There is also a festival called "Chaiti Chhath" celebrated just after the Holi festival.

Jagdharti Puja

After Chath Puja, Jagdharti Puja comes. Jagdharti Puja is very much famous at Chandannagar (Chandannagore) for may beautiful pandals but more than that it;s famous for it's lighting decoration. In India, Chandanagore is very much famous for its lighting decorarion. It is said that Mr. Indranarayan Choudhury introduced the first Jagadhatri Puja in Chandannagar in the respect of King Krishnachandra of Krishnanagar. The whole Chandanagar is fully illuminated. People from all over the West Bengal comes here and visit the place whole night. Chandan is an hour distance from Kolkata (Calcutta), if someone is coming from the train then they have to catch the train from Howrah Station. And it can also be reached from Kankinara by local boat or ship. Chandannagar was ruled by French Government while other parts of India was under British before 1947.

Saurav Ganguly, India's most successful Test Captain ever, fondly called Dada, has finally announced his retirement from the both domestic and International Cricket. The news disappointed to many of Ganguly's fans who were not expecting his retirement so early. Saurav Ganguly was controversially selected in the four test series against Australia & it was more controversial when he dropped from the Irani Trophy. Saurav Ganguly also added that he was surprised by his inclusion in the Test series against Australia. Anil Kumble also took his retirement on 2nd November 2008 at Kotla Ground, Delhi during the 3rd Test against Australia. The Long running Calendar of the Ancient Mayans is going to end on Dec 21 2012. There is no good amount of information about what the Mayans thought would occur in 2012, but it the consensus of opinion seems that there will be great change not only in a particular place but all over the world (on the Earth). But some people believes that this means a positive and spiritual change. Others considering that a catastrophic event may have been predicted.

Nobody predict what will happen in coming 2012...
Good thing is that there is zero scientific evidence that anything is going to be happened, but still there are many such things that could be easily threatened to the human species in December 2012, such as a collision of two planet geomagnetic movement, earth quake or any supernova. Or it may be something more intimate, just like a flu pandemic, or a nuclear war among the different countries.

What does Varun (I) think?
-Although I wouldd prefer new age enlightenment, I can't help it but feeling something terrible may occur, and that ancient civilizations have left us coded. I am getting the feeling the whole earth will be filled with waters, only few thousands of people will survive who will bring the new civilization, then there will be no country, no religion, no terrorism, no politics, no racism. Everything will be really simple and beautiful because Earth will come in a new shape and everything will be fresh. May be some new animals, plants will come. Recently, Hydro chloride has been tested that can also be the reason, the earth can enter inti the Black Hole, and as we all know nothing comes from Black hole.

I really have no idea if something bad will happenor not in 2012. Nobody really knows really, people can just predict. Maa Durga exists in all kinds of beings in the form of mercy, intelligence, beauty, mercy, who is the consort of Lord Shiva, who makes, sustains and destroys this universe. Generally, this festival is observed twice a year, one in the month of Chaitra and another in Aswayuja. It remains for nine days in the honour of the nine manifestations of Maa Durga. During the time of Navaratri (known as "nine nights") devotees of Durga observe a fast. Brahmins are fed all over and prayers are made for the protection of health and wealth not only for self but also for other loved ones. The arrival of summer and the arrival of winter are two very crucial junctions of climatic and for solar influence. These periods are knowns as sacred opportunities for the worship of the Divine Mother.

Durga Puja Celebration:
The Durga Puja is celebrated in various parts of India in different styles. But the one basic aim of this celebration is to propitiate Shakti, the Goddess in Her aspect as Power, to bestow upon man all wealth, auspiciousness, prosperity, knowledge (both sacred and secular), and all other potent powers. Whatever be the particular or special request that everyone may put before the Goddess, whatever boon may be asked of Her, the one thing behind all these is propitiation, worship and linking oneself with Her. There is no other aim. This is being effected consciously or unconsciously. Everyone is blessed with Her loving mercy and is protected by her.

About Durga Puja / Navaratri Celebration:
Durga Puja or Navaratri starts on the first and lastes on the tenth day of the bright half of Aswayuja. It is held in the victory of Durga over Mahishasura, the dangerous buffalo headed demon. In West Bengal, her image is worshipped for continious nine days and then at 10th day (Dashmi) cast into water. The tenth day is known as "Vijaya Dasami" or even Dussera. Processionsare taken out along the streets with her image in the villages and cities. In Bengal, Durga Puja is a huge festival. All who live away from home (Bengal) return during the Puja days. Mothers reunite with their family members sons and daughters, and wives with their husbands. Goddess Durga is believed to exist in so many forms like Bhavani, Mahakali Jagdamba, etc. In some parts of India, the first three, Navratri are devoted for worshipping Durga, then next three days for Lakshmi (Goddess of Wealth) and the last remaining three days for Goddess Sarswati (Goddess of Knowledge and Art).

Bihar Floods 2008

The number of death toll caused by a disaster flood triggered by heavy monsoon rains in India's state of Bihar has now reached 55 people, and more than 125,000 have been forced to flee their own homes. Food riots erupted on 25th of August 2008, where over 2 million people have been forced from their homes and about 2.5 million houses destroyed in what official people saying are the worst floods in the last 50 years. More than 400 villages have been already flooded, and large areas of farmlands have been damaged totally since the Kosi River (knowns as Sorrow of Bihar) burst its banks and changed the course. The floods have spread throughout the state's 15 districts & left over one million people cut off from transport routes because major roads are still under water.

Usually, Monsoon season in India occurs from early July to end of September, plays important role for harvesting but regularly inflicts major destruction. In early August month, floods swept along the coast of the Bay of Bengal in the southern part of the country, affecting around fifty neighborhoods in Hyderabad city, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, and killing more than 70 persons.

Already, torrential rains have taken over 1,000 people in South Asia since the monsoon began in June, mainly in India's state of Uttar Pradesh, where 700 people have lost their lives. Other deaths were also reported from Bangladesh and Nepal. Expert people blamed that the floods caused on heavier monsoon rains by the Global warming, while others believes that the authorities have done nothing in the past to take measures steps and improve the infrastructure to fight with these natural calamities. Officials reported flood victims had looted grain at some parts in Bihar. Others ran for miles and miles under helicopters that were dropping food packets. A boy was also killed and about 30 people were injured in the Supaul district of Bihar when food packets fell on them directly.

"We have enough stock of food grains but the main problem is that we have limited means of transport to supply those among the villagers," Mr. Gupta, a government official in Madhepura, told Reuters by telephone. Several prisoners also took the advantage of the floods to escape from a jail at Supaul on Tuesday. "We are facing difficulty in getting the exact number of prisoners who fled since communication networks have totally cut off," said Nitish Kumar, Bihar's CM. The U.N. children's fund UNICEF told that roads had been damaged and water and electricity supplies disrupted badly.

On the day of the festival Ganesha Chaturthi, it is placed on raised platforms in houses or in elaborately decorated outdoor tents (pandals) for people to view and pay their homage. A life-like clay model of Shree Lord Ganesha start making 2 to 3 months prior to the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. The size of this idol vary from 3/4th of an inch to over 30 feet. The priest, usually clad in red silk dhotee & shawl, then invokes life into the idol amidst the chanting of Ganesha mantras. This ritual is the pranapratishhtha. After this the shhodashopachara (16 ways of paying tribute) follows. Coconut, jaggery, 21 modakas , 21 durva blades & flowers are offered. The idol is anointed with red unguent (rakta chandan). Throughout the whole ceremony, Vedic hymns from the Rig Veda & Ganapati Shirsha Upanishad, & Ganesha stotra from the Narada Purana are loudly chanted.

For 10 days, from Bhadrapad Shudh Chaturthi to Ananta Chaturdashi, Ganesha is worshipped all parts of India but it is famous in Maharastra state (in India) and Kankinara (in West Bengal). On the 11th day, the idol is taken through the streets in a procession accompanied with singing, dancing, to be immersed in a river or the sea symbolizing a ritual see-off of the Lord in his journey towards his abode in Kailash while taking away with him the misfortunes of all man.

People gathers in this final procession by shouting "Ganapathi Bappa Moriya, Purchyaa Varshi Laukariyaa" (Oh Lord Ganesha, come again early next year soon). Then after the final offering of coconuts, flowers & camphor is made, people carry the idol of Lord Ganesha to the river to immerse it.

The Hindus almost all parts of the world community comes to worship Ganesha in beautifully done pandals. Somewhere, these serve as the venue for blood donation camp in the tents, free medical check-up, charity for the poor people, devotional songs, dramatic performances, films and many more during the days of the Ganesha Chaturthi festival.
